Barrie Sanford is no stranger to railways in British Columbia. For nearly half a century he has been researching the history of railways, recording the stories of railroaders and taking top-notch railway photographs. He is the author of four railway books and dozens of magazine articles. His book McCulloch's Wonder: The Story of the Kettle Valley Railway has become a Canadian railway classic, selling more than 35,000 copies and remaining in print, 30 years after being first published. His other books include The Pictorial History of Railroading in the British Columbia, Steel Rails and Iron Men, and his most recent book, Royal Metal: The People, Times and Trains of New Westminster Bridge. He is currently completing a book celebrating a century of trains operating through White Rock, his home town. The book is planned for public release in March 2009, timed with the 100th anniversary of the first train to operate over the beachfront railway along Semiahmoo Bay. |
